Succulent of the Week: Ice Plant

Today will be the start of a new trend. I’ve always had a fondness for succulents and would like to share my interest with you

Ice plant (Carpobrotus edulis)

Ice plant

Most people don’t know but the iceplant was brought to CA in the early 1900s for stabilizing soil along railroad tracks. It was later used by Caltrans for similar purposes. After that it was mostly used for ground cover in gardens and is available at coastal nurseries. Unfortunately it is an invasive species that is causing a lot of damage to the local fauna.
